“In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity”
Standing at this amazing intersection, where we are able to see the blending of sports such as kiting, foiling, and surfing, is where you will experience the AK brand philosophy firsthand. We, of course, respect the purists out there too – they are even among us. Any time you see one of your friends having fun on something you have never tried; you have to ask yourself – Am I missing out?
We want to connect with the cross-over rider from other sports, other brands, and the outlier who is looking for something different. We want to clearly differentiate our multi-sport hardware and accessory products that ensure that they appeal to a broad range of users. We wanted to support our specialty brand partners with a single connection point for multi-sport products.
The Collective are excited to introduce the full 20-21 collection from AK Durable Supply Co. – Online Now!
Foils are one of the most interesting concepts to see significant innovation over the last few years. Our love for the sport has inspired a range of foils and boards suitable for crossover use in surf, wake, pump, and wind sports.
Foil surfing has opened up the playground and allowed us to utilize the smallest waves, flattest lakes, and light wind conditions to bring a new sensation to performance surfing.
Our Freeride, Carving, and Surf foils have proven to be industry-leading in finding the perfect balance between performance, ease of use, and durability. We have seen the Freeride foil winning kite races at a national level, and we now offer a full carbon mast for the performance riders looking for an upgrade.
The Surf foil has hit the sweet spot; as a foil that is easy enough to learn how to surf, kite, wing, and pumps with ease, while having the best top-end speed in its class. We have introduced a new 2000cm size for this season, ideal for the heavier riders, as well as wing riding on bigger boards.
The new high aspect foils have been crafted as the performance choice for the advanced rider with, Zane Schweitzer putting his name behind the 1300 as his ultimate foil for his blend of pumping, surf foiling, and winging. These are shipped standard with our new Carbon mast, engineered to perfection.
This is a very exciting new product concept for us, where we have developed a single board range that blends our knowledge from pump; downwind, kite, surf, and wing into a single range. Becoming that one board quiver, for just about everything.
Cross over multi-sport World Champion riders such as, Zane Schweitzer, Alvaro Onieva, and more recently Alex Pastor, another convert, have been instrumental in developing a product that covers everything from true entry-level up to the most advanced rider.
We have focused on a single mid-price construction with premium features; all sizes featuring footstrap inserts, a full carbon top deck sandwich with composite T stringers, and “deck connected” foil inserts.
Taking personal preference to new levels, the fin and traction range is designed to be completely modular and offer you exactly what you’re looking for. From the 2.5mm Ultrathin traction, 4mm Classic that includes a full deck option, to the Glue on Insert Pads; you can select the best setup to suit your wave riding style.
We now offer a 4-piece full front pad and a new fish rear traction to compliment this range.
The tri and twin fin sets have seen significant development with the new larger sizes in the AK6, and updated twin/quad sets in the Thrasher. The new signature Staple fin, is introduced as the ultimate all-around performance surf fin, developed in collaboration with South Africa free surf maestro, Dale Staples.
As a fun side project, we also introduce a concise range of longboard fins in conjunction with shaping guru, Dave Stubbs, as well as signature models by World Champions, Matthew Moir, and Zane Schweitzer.
A concise collection without compromise, the AK harness range is focused on comfort, durability, and performance to cater to a wide range of riders’ needs.
The Ether waist harness has carved a niche in the lightweight harness segment, and with the growth of kite foiling, and as a wing harness, we have developed a core following. Building on the success of this, we introduce the Ether Seat harness; a lightweight low seat harness that optimizes mobility for foiling, starting at under 500 Grams – It’s even lighter than the Ether Waist harness.
After more than two years in development, we introduce the new Method harness. This composite harness blends the advantages of a true hardshell; a low flex sandwich composite shell, with rubber soft edges, for the pinnacle of pure support and comfort. With the new school elite, Kiko Roig Torres, and Jack Rieder, showing the versatility from park to strapless riding, this is a product we’re really excited about.
With visual updates for the season, the Synth sits between the Ether and the Method harnesses, for classic comfort with the option of the seat attachment.
Designed with an emphasis on durability and comfort, the AK binding range covers all kite and wake riding disciplines.
From the highly durable, lightweight, fly-line construction of the Team Black boot, to the ease of use and comfort of the Element binding, the binding range offers ergonomic comfort and support that will have you riding longer and shredding harder.
For the last few years, we have collaborated with the largest accessory brand in the industry to share the benchmark Element binding and our boots with the market. With the growth of the AK line, we will now offer these products exclusively within AK.
On top of this, we introduce the Ether binding to the purist, who is looking for the absolute best in a lightweight strap and pad combination. These come in at around half of the weight of a traditional binding.
Whether you’re getting into the sport, racing, or hitting obstacles, you’ve got to look after yourself, and safety gear is an important part of your quiver.
You can’t control the conditions, but you can prepare for them, and the CE Certified Riot helmet and CE Floatation Vest have got you covered.
AK is a watersports brand from Cape Town, producing technical components and accessories built for comfort, durability, and performance.
We are all masters of our own desire, in search of the perfect day, place, and moment to unleash our energy. This is why we spend our time chasing wind and waves, pushing the limits of ourselves, and our gear. Our aim is to create products that become an extension of ourselves, progressively integrating our bodies into the elements, until we work as one.
AK, part of the Starboard Group, was initiated by the creative and technical minds behind the Solar Station Design company in Cape Town; a small collective of creators and innovators that have been crafting products for the surf, wake and wind sports industry for 25 years. We work to forge a new path in high performance, durable, and essential design that resonates with a crew of like-minded riders.
The first products were developed in 2018 by Clinton Filen, Graham Wiles, and Dean Freedberg, along with a few additions in more recent years, like Dave Kay, and Craig Tompkins.
In 2019, South African surfer Dale Staples, Hawaiian waterman Zane Schweitzer, Canadian Kiteboarding Champion Jack Reider, and Spanish champ Kiko Roig Torres, formed the nucleus of the early team riders. Since then, we’ve formed a tight-knit collective of free surfers, kiters, and foil riders who have all helped drive the brand forward.
